Step Up Mentoring

A collaboration between BBBSF and Coconino Juvenile Court Services, Step Up Mentoring connects local teens to positive resources in their community with the help of appropriate adult mentors. Weekly group mentoring sessions (on and off-site) explore teens’ interests and provide a variety of unique opportunities for success. These ongoing and structured mentoring meetings include different activities such as visiting interesting places and forging contacts with constructive people. Through establishing and strengthening these relationships teens experience a positive support system that they can rely on.

Alongside engaged adult mentors young people can build confidence, competence and caring, which can continue to develop into long term community connections.

All teen participants have had some involvement with the Juvenile Justice System and this program is an opportunity for them to engage in healthy alternatives to various high risk behaviors. Activities on and off-site include visits from guest speakers, field trips, job shadowing, sportsand outdoor recreation, as well as other possibilities. Mentors are often just the type of positive influence that a young person needs to realize their own potential and navigate through the difficult teen years.
