School Based Mentoring

What is School Based Mentoring?

SBM is an after school mentoring program that meets once a week for ten weeks in the Fall and ten weeks in the Spring. We recruit volunteers who want to share some of their extra time with a child. Our mentors are not trained tutors or counselors, nor are they babysitters. SBM focuses on developing friendships within the school environment and providing positive role models to the children in our programs. The program at each school is supervised by a facilitator who plans activities, provides snacks and oversees the sessions. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff keeps careful records and close tabs on each match: we communicate weekly with every facilitator and no less than monthly with every volunteer. Every concern is handled with the utmost care and speed.
