In School Based mentoring programs, Bigs and Littles meet for one-to-one mentoring in the classroom, school library, school computer room  or other set location. Bigs and Littles typically meet once a week to work on crafts, play sports or games, or simply talk about life and personal issues – just as friends do.

School-based mentoring is not a classroom or tutoring program.  However, research has shown that of all children matched with a Big in school:

  • 58% improved their school performance
  • 65% showed higher levels of self-confidence
  • 55% had a better attitude toward school

You don't need any special training or certification. If you can spend one hour a week, arranged around your needs and the school's schedule, you may be able to start participating in a School Based mentoring program.
