Kids we serve
We accept referrals for children in the Flagstaff and Williams areas who are between the ages of 6 and 15. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff will take referrals for youth over 15 years of age for our Step Up Mentoring Program only. Children enrolled in our programs come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion or physical disability. Our programs are delivered 100% by community volunteers who generously give their time to help youth.
National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. By participating in our youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:
More confident in their schoolwork performance
Able to get along better with their families
46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
27% less likely to begin using alcohol
52% less likely to skip school
Referrals of children to our programs come from a wide range of people involved in the child's life and can include:
- Parents
- Extended Family Members
- Neighbors or Family Friends
- School Teachers
- School Counselors
- Outside or Private Counselors or Therapists
- Coaches
- Leaders of other community organizations/congregations
