Charitable Tax Credit Donation

TaxCredit-2014-FBprofileBig Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff (BBBSF) had an amazing year. We served 893 children and volunteers across three mentoring programs. That’s 75 more than the year before, and we did it with a 9% reduction in income. Unfortunately, with over 50 boys currently waiting for a caring Big, there seems to be no end in sight for our work. Looking forward, our programs cannot sustain this level of growth without a significant increase in funding. With the need for positive mentoring relationships greater than ever, we ask you today to take a moment and read about the Charitable Tax Credit for the Working Poor – and how a gift to BBBSF positively impacts your tax liability and our community youth.

Since BBBSF is a qualified charitable tax credit agency, when you file your state tax return for 2014, you are allowed to “redirect” up to $200 as a single filer or up to $400 filing married to help children succeed by matching them with appropriate adult mentors. This tax credit is different than the tax credit at your child’s school, and you can give to both each year if you desire.

Your gift to BBBSF is a dollar-for-dollar tax credit, which is more valuable than a tax deduction. A tax credit will help reduce your overall state tax liability and is not impacted by your tax withholdings during the course of the year*. If you withheld more than what you owed, the credit will result in an increase in your state tax refund. If you have no Arizona tax liability for the current year, you may carry the tax credit forward for up to five years. And, you do not have to itemize on your state taxes – so really anyone can give.

Take full advantage of this tax credit opportunity and thereby invest in a child’s future. Here’s how easy it is to make a contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff by December 31st, 2014.

  1. Choose a donation method – Mail a check to Big Brothers Big Sisters at PO BOX 1701 Flagstaff, AZ 86002
  3. Choose a donation amount – $200 filing singly, $400 filing married, or Other amount
  4. BBBSF will mail you a receipt when we receive your gift
  5. Use that receipt when you file your taxes
  6. When you fill out your Arizona tax return, complete the very simple Form 321 and deduct the amount of your gift, up to $200 per individual or $400 per couple filing jointly, from what you owe in state taxes for the year. Or, provide the receipt to your tax preparer.

Thank you for taking the time to consider a Charitable Tax Credit donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff.  We appreciate your support.
